Spanish I
Spanish 1 is a beginner-level Spanish language course focused on the foundational skills of the language. The course introduces students to basic communication skills, including greetings, verb conjugations, basic vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar structures. Significant emphasis is placed on practical application and conversational ability rather than rote memorization. Certain cultural aspects will be introduced and incorporated, such as traditions and histories of Spanish- speaking countries. The students will have plenty of opportunities to hear the Spanish language spoken as they learn to speak it conversationally as well. For fun, the students will engage in group projects using Spanish. We will aim to develop a strong foundation for further study in Spanish 2.

Students will deepen their understanding of verb tenses such as the preterite and imperfect, as well as learn how to express themselves in more complex sentences. The course emphasizes cultural exploration through topics like traditions, geography, history, and current events in Spanish-speaking countries. Additionally, students will practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through a variety of activities, including dialogues, group projects, and written assignments. By the end of the course, students will be better equipped to communicate in Spanish with greater confidence and understanding of the language’s cultural context.
