Biology

Course Description

This course is taught using Apologia 2nd Edition biology text. The text is supplemented with lecture, labs, videos, flashcards, and teacher slides. This class meets once a week for 2 hours in person. In this course your student will  learn to maneuver through taxonomy, microscopes, osmosis, entomology, genetics, biochemistry, cellular biology, dissection and other important concepts that will open the door to the basics of Biology.

Apologia Biology is designed to prepare students for college biology courses and is taught from a biblical world view. It emphasizes vocabulary and provides a strong background in the scientific method. All labs will be conducted in class so that students learn how to conduct experiments and interpret results.

Physics

Course Description

This is a college-prep physics course that is designed for the student who has completed algebra 1 and geometry and has had an introduction to the definitions of sine, cosine, and tangent. It provides a detailed introduction to the methods and concepts of general physics, heavily emphasizing vector analysis. This class provides an overview of the major conceptual developments in historic and contemporary physics, such as Newton’s Laws of Motion, Kepler’s Laws of Planetary Motion, energy, forces, waves, electricity, and magnetism through lectures, demonstrations, laboratory experiments, and problem. The laboratory experience develops within the student an understanding of the scientific processes and theories designed to provide answers to the questioning mind. Physics instills a certain appreciation for the science of physics as a quest to know and understand the physical world, helping the student to understand the science and issues surrounding the use of modern technology which has its basis in physics. Students think critically using both concrete and abstract examples from physics as models.

Forensic Science

Course Description

Forensic science is a fascinating study of over twenty scientific disciplines. In this course we will continue to discover God as The Designer of science. Your student will learn observation skills, computer skills, genetics, fingerprint and impression marks, courtroom procedures, and bring all sciences together as they research and perform labs. Forensic Science is a laboratory-based science class.  The purpose of this course is for students to gain experience in the major investigative techniques currently used by forensic scientists and crime scene investigators, and to develop an understanding of the scientific concepts which serve as the basis for these techniques using a Christian world view. Forensic science is a senior-level course rich in exploration and lab investigation which applies many disciplines of scientific study such as biology/anatomy, chemistry, and physics to solving crimes. Students learn about forensic tools, technical resources, forming and testing hypotheses, proper data collection, and responsible conclusions.

This course deals with real criminal case studies and discusses sensitive topics, due to the topic and prerequisites this course is ONLY available to seniors. No exceptions. If you have questions about this class please contact the instructor.
